You are all familiar with the Rhinebeck Sweater, right? You create that special sweater to wear to the New York Sheep and Wool Festival in Rhinebeck, NY each year. Well, one of our repeat attendees at KnitWit at the Shores has suggested we all create Searsport Shawls. I think this would be an amazing idea. June evenings are likely to still need shawls by the ocean here in Maine.
I'm still deciding which one I will make, but here are a few that I've got on my short-list.
- Recursive by Bristol Ivy
- As You Wish by Mary Annarella
- Khyber Pass by Simone Kereit
- Slipstravaganza by Stephen West
- Open Bar by Cally Monster
- Clarity Shawl by Erin Gates
What do you think? What shawl would you make for your Searsport Shawl this year?
Show us your Searsport Shawl when you check in at the retreat for 5 extra raffle tickets!

It’s my first retreat too. I’m working on the Rose Beach Shawl Abby Ani
Kopatz with a few additions for my large frame. I hope it’s done in time.

Bonnie – There are no “rules” with the Searsport Shawl. It’s just a fun idea to make something ahead of time that you plan on wearing at the retreat. You can make whatever you like. Just bring it along and show it off. We can all make something different. Share what you are making on social media so we can all share your excitement!

Cool idea! I vote for Open Bar by Cally Monster.

Hi Jenn – this will be my first ‘knitting retreat’. I wanted to ask for a little clarification. Are we expected to make a Searsport Shawl before we attend and if so will it be our choice of patterns or one of the ones you recommended? Or – is this something we will be doing at Searsport? Appreciate any clarification you can share.
