Maine Yarn Cruise 2026: Everything You Need to Know

Every summer, knitters and crocheters from across New England start planning road trips that revolve around one thing: yarn.

The Maine Yarn Cruise is one of my favorite events of the year because it combines so many things I love. Beautiful yarn shops, scenic drives, new project inspiration, and the chance to explore parts of Maine you might never have visited otherwise.

If you've been curious about the Maine Yarn Cruise or you're thinking about participating for the first time, here's what you need to know.

What Is the Maine Yarn Cruise?

The Maine Yarn Cruise is a statewide event that encourages fiber enthusiasts to visit participating yarn shops throughout Maine.

This year's cruise runs from July 1 through October 12, 2026, giving you more than three months to explore at your own pace.

There is no right way to do the cruise. Some people make a point of visiting every participating shop. Others choose a handful of destinations and turn it into a few fun day trips. Either approach is part of the adventure.

Along the way you'll discover new yarns, new shops, new project ideas, and plenty of fellow makers who share your enthusiasm for knitting and crochet.

How Does It Work?

To participate, you'll need a Maine Yarn Cruise passport.

As you visit participating shops, you'll collect stamps in your passport and become eligible for prizes and giveaways throughout the event.

Many cruisers also purchase the official Maine Yarn Cruise tote bag, which quickly becomes filled with yarn, patterns, project bags, and other treasures collected during the summer.

Why People Love the Maine Yarn Cruise

Of course there are prizes.

But that's rarely what people talk about afterward.

What I hear most often are stories about discovering a shop they'd never visited before, finding a yarn they weren't expecting to fall in love with, or spending a day exploring Maine with friends who enjoy the same hobbies they do.

The cruise has a way of turning a simple yarn purchase into a memorable day.

First-Time Cruiser? Start Small.

If you've never participated before, don't feel like you need to visit every shop.

Pick a few destinations that interest you and enjoy the journey.

Maybe you plan a day along the coast. Maybe you explore a part of Maine you've never visited. Maybe you gather a few friends and make a weekend of it.

The cruise is meant to be fun, not stressful.

Reserve Your Passport and Tote Bag

Passports and official tote bags are now available for pre-order.

Pre-ordering ensures you'll be ready to start cruising as soon as the event begins on July 1.

We'll have passports and tote bags available for pickup before the cruise starts, and we'll share additional details as they arrive.

If you're planning to participate this year, now is the perfect time to reserve yours and start thinking about where your first stop might be.

I can't wait to hear about everyone's adventures this summer.

See you at the shop,
